When I am out doing ToolBook training I often run into the problem that my customer does not have tools to edit files they want to use in their training. For someone like me who spends most my time developing - not having the right tools for the job is quite frustrating, so I started looking for good free applications that could help my customers out. They might still have to fight with corporate IT to be allowed to install the programs but at least you don’t have to worry about the budget.

Ever had a recorded simulation where certain objects of the recorded application did not update between steps, even though it did during the recording? This article describes how you (in most cases) can get around that problem. It also gives an overhead view of what goes on behind the scenes when a Simulation is recorded and built using the Simulation AutoBuilder feature of ToolBook.

- Or “Alternative uses of ToolBook’s Simulation object”.
I have often faced the challenge of having to make more complex interactions or questions than what is possible out of the box using ToolBook’s catalog objects. Very often you or your client wants a combination of multiple questions but scored as one question – or they want to use a type of questions not available in the ToolBook catalog – such as a “dropdown question” or similar

I recently learned that "Adobe plans to discontinue development of Authorware". I had mixed feelings about the news as I started my career working with Authorware and liked it very much, but since then transitioned into ToolBook. In any case life moves on and developers using Authorware should take a look at ToolBook 9 as an alternative. Its fast, efficient and supports deployment to CD-rom and HTML from the same file - and it has support for authoring as well as deployment on Windows Vista. Given my background with both Tools I have added conversion of Authorware Projects to ToolBook to my list of services offered.
