Welcome to my ToolBook blog on my new website.

I have been pretty busy since Ieft my position as ToolBook Alliance Manager at SumTotal Systems in April 2007 to start my own company: I have done content development,  consulting  and support for various customers and ToolBook resellers - and held quite a few ToolBook training sessions.

If you have your own business it’s great to be busy – so I am not complaining but I AM pleased to have a little bit of time now to revamp this website.

I wanted to make the site more dynamic, with surveys, blogs and more. Rather than adding this functionality to the existing - more or less static - site, I decided on using a Content Management System (CMS).  CMS’s are great because you get a lot of functionality for ‘free’ – the downside is that you tend to lose some flexibility - unless you get a CMS that can easily be customised. So it’s the familiar tradeoff between speed and flexibility.

Because I wanted to be able to modify the CMS itself I chose a .Net based Open Source CMS called DotNetNuke (AKA DNN).  I am pretty happy with the functionality of DNN like most tools it has its quirks, but overall it serves its purpose well. One thing I dont like about DNN is that it doesnt come with pure css skins. It took a bit of time to convert the default table based layout to CSS - there are still some table based components used on this site -so I'll weed them out as soon as I get a little bit of time..
Enough said about the CMS – after all this is a ToolBook blog

My plans with this site are to create a site with resources for the ToolBook community. You will find tools on the download page and technical articles and samples in this blog

In addition this site is going serve as a platform for the commercial activities of ToolBookConsulting. I plan to add content to this site on a regular basis so check back often - or subscribe to the RSS feed of this blog.

I hope you will find this website useful and look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers
Tomas Lund

ps. if you miss something from my old site you can find it here
