As you probably know you can set the time limit on a single question through the extended properties of the question, but what if you want to set a time limit for the entire quiz?

Using the Action timer and a few lines of Action Editor Code it is a pretty easy thing to do.

First check out the sample and then get the tbk file if you want to see in more detail how it’s done.

A few things to notice in the sample
  • All questions share the same background
  • The Action timer is placed on the background
  • The Action timer is started with Actions Editor Code on page 2
  • The Extended properties for the action timer is set to countdown from 100000 milliseconds, i.e. 100 seconds to 0
  • If the Learner makes it to the certificate page before the time is up there is AE code on the page to stop the timer.
  •  Look at the Actions Editor Code for the Action timer to see the code which update the remaining time field, and takes care of navigating to the out of time page if needed.
  • The page called “OutOfTime” is on a different background than the rest of the pages this is to prevent the learner from navigating away from it

I hope this sample is useful to you.

Cheers
Tomas
